ICAI to focus on adapting AI, ethics and forensic auditing

Kolkata: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the second largest professional body of chartered accountants in the world, flagged off its two-day Annual Convocation Ceremony in Kolkata today. 

CA (Dr) Debashis Mitra, Hon’ble Vice President, ICAI, while addressing media persons said, “ICAI, which has emerged as a global institute, will focus on adapting new technologies like Artificial Intelligence along with forensic auditing and upgrading its code of ethics. We will ensure that students keep up to the global standards. For this ICAI has raised the accounting standards to keep up with the global trends and changes. ICAI has also expanded its footprint across and beyond India and currently has a student base of 7.5 lacs; 45 chapters and presence in 57 cities.”

“Another encouraging development for CAs has been the recognition granted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to Chartered Accountancy qualification as equivalent to Masters degree. Now CAs can pursue Ph.D programmes,” Dr Mitra said.

The Convocation was inaugurated with the lighting of lamp by Guest of Honour, CA Subodh Kumar Agrawal, Past President of ICAI along with other eminent dignitaries. The Convocation is for the 2394 newly enrolled members of Eastern Region. CA Sunil Kumar Sahoo, Chairman, EIRC welcomed and felicitated the Guest of Honour with flower bouquet and memento. 

Mr Agrawal complimented the newly enrolled Members and praised their efforts for achieving their target and said, “Nothing is difficult in life and failures are the pillars of success and this is just the beginning of achieving future targets.”

In a recorded version, CA. Nihar N. Jambusaria, Hon’ble President, ICAI, has addressed the newly enrolled Members and welcomes the Members in the CA fraternity by explaining it a great profession. He congratulated the Members by saying that they have passed the CA Exam in a most crucial time of pandemic.   

CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, Central Council Member and Co-ordinator of the Convocation, and CA Sushil Kumar Goyal, Central Council Member, delivered welcome addresses to the newly enrolled Members. CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, administered the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-enrolled Members. The Guest of Honour, Past President, ICAI, CA Subodh Kumar Agrawal, along with other dignitaries on the dais awarded the Rank Certificates to CA Final Examination and also Membership certificates was distributed to the newly enrolled members.  A vote of thanks was delivered by CA Sunil Kumar Sahoo, Chairman, EIRC.
