The Illegal Indian Migrants Deported from US

Bhubaneswar: The big Modi – Trump meeting in Washington has been decoded on trade, tariffs, terrorism and a bunch of other issues of the cooperation between India and the United States. One major matter remains a point of relative friction of not the return of the illegal Indian migrants but the manner they were treated. The illegal migrants were shackled, handcuffed and chained in a forty hour flight, brought back in a US military plane. The MEA ( Ministry of External Affairs) stated it had raised concern with the authority of the United States. But the foreign ministry said this was the standard operating protocol for the Americans.

The second plane loaded with deportees is scheduled to come back to India. Amid this situation the Chief minister of Punjab has made allegations against the Modi government. He is asking why Amritsar is the chosen destination where the deportees are to be landed. He is asking why not the place chosen for the deportees Gujarat. He says, “ If Sheikh Hasina’s plane can be landed in the capital, why are these planes landing in Amritsar?”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has classified this problem as the problem of human trafficking acknowledging that the migrants are desperate, poor and misled by the cartels. The PM said that he expects that president Trump, America and India will work together to solve it.

The people who live in other countries illegally have no rights to live there. If we talk about the relation between India and the United States, those who are the verified Indian citizens living illegally in India, are welcome to India and we are ready to take them back. But the matter does not end here as these migrants are from normal, poor families lured by different livelihood perspectives by the big cartels. These people are lured to human trafficking. There should be action taken on the whole ecosystem that operates behind this. India and the USA have to work together to curb this from its roots itself. So that the poor people would not get trapped by it by losing their properties, money and assets whatever little they possess with hard work. The fight has to do with the whole ecosystem and together as a team.

Though there are radiographs and photographs of handcuffed , chained deportees that went viral after the first batch of migrants were deported from the US. There are some disturbing testimonies which can potentially be directed to raise questions on the US authorities, equally considering the fact of human trafficking.
