Bhubaneswar: The word education means to learn, receive, adopt, gain knowledge in whatever way. The main aim of education is to make people aware by exploring, and developing the inner qualities of education. It helps to create a healthy, human beings, family and eventually a society. According to Vivekananda, “ the education that helps to create good characters, strengthens the mind, expands wisdom and gives courage to stand independent is the real education. The education that becomes a hurdle for the development of the innermost quality and awareness of a student is not the real education”.
Education, today, has become a means of business. The main aim of such business institutions is to earn livelihood, make profits rather than teaching life skills or acquiring knowledge. This system is the striking opposite of the intellectual learning process. We are completely influenced and trapped by the western way of education. The westernized materialistic mindset has captured us so much that we have hurt our rich culture, and history by forgetting it completely. As s result a huge infectious virus of the materialistic education mindset has grown its branches and spread its shades all over. Humanity has lost its existence.
The children are dipped into the system of memorizing everything instead of understanding the core concept of knowledge. The private institutions are playing different devious tricks to make their respective students score higher marks. Money is the ultimate formula for every problem here. The children are deeply hypnotized by the race of only scoring marks. When the children should invest their time and energy into developing their curiosity, skills, creativity and intelligence, they are busy buying certificates with heavy amounts of cash from big private institutions. The education that is unable to create the ideology of self satisfaction and independence, cannot direct the path of self reliance, not guiding towards humanity and sensitivity, fails to give self discipline, it is not a successful system of education. Education should always be humanitarian, development and growth oriented, vocational, courageous, high spirited, patient, daring, honest, punctual, efficient, with good characters and so on. All These qualities can only be found in a robot now, not in a human being. The students are engaged in a narrow mindset, poor character, antisocial actions, by running after money.
The data published in Beyond Basics in 2023 from a survey conducted by the Civil Society Association suggested rural children within the age of 14-18 perform poorly in mathematics. Most of the students, as per the survey, can not read their mother tongue. About 86 percent students are enrolled in some educational institute whereas 39 percent from the age group of 14 are not enrolled in any instructions. At the same time this percentage is 25 percent in the case of 18 year old children. As per the data in 2022, India ranks at 53 position in terms of education in the world. It indicates the condition of the education system in our country.
It is said that dedication is the key to acquiring knowledge. Anything that is done with utmost dedication and discipline is going to be successful. If we learn with dedication, and joy there will be a reflection of completeness, and greatness in it. So our government should expand the education system with dedication. The inclusion of mother tongue in primary and secondary education, and it should show the right path to the children. As long as the education system has not achieved to be properly framed, be accessible to all, revised in a better way it will remain a sheer mode of buying certificates. Therefore the contribution of every individual along with the government is needed to bring the urgent change in our education system.
