Religion Used as Weapon for Minority Politics

Bhubaneswar: The Hindus in Murshidabad, West Bengal are facing humiliation, torture and sexual assault in the current riots in the name of protest against the Waqf law. These people feel unsafe in their own land and state. Last Friday, SDPI and other muslim groups called for a protest opposing the Waqf law. After the Friday prayers, the devastating garbage, loot and vandalism. There are allegations from both sides of fueling this rage and hate with poisonous provocations in the name of a protest against the newly enacted Waqf law.

Common people, especially Hindus in Murshidabad, West Bengal are forced to flee their own land to save their lives. The heart wrenching tales from the people crushes the heart of India as women are given the option to choose between their husband ‘s life and their dignity. It is a sheer attempt to evacuate Hindus from the place. Their houses are ransacked, looted. A man and his son have been pulled out of their home and killed brutally. The pictures of Hindu men, women and children leaving their homes fearing of losing life is heartbreaking. As per the locals, their water is poisoned and even children are not spared. The people say, they are threatening to wipe out all the Hindus from the locality. As they say, they are being attacked only because they are Hindus.

The government, police and the so- called saviours of the constitution have kept their mouth shut. In the name of minority rights the religion is being weaponized. In such hooliganism and violence against Hindus the self proclaimed guardians of the constitution are nowhere to be seen. The leaders who claim themselves to be secular are silent on the alleged atrocities on Hindus in the Mamata government.

Narendra Modi states in his speech on the occasion of ‘Samvidhan Divas’, ‘ If you really care about the minorities then a muslim your party president’. Talking on the Waqf, he said the poor and women should have been benefited from these lands but only a few land mafias benefited from it. Congress has used the pious constitution as a weapon to grab the power.
