Muhammad Yunus’s Comment on the Chicken leg Region, North East India Disconnecting from India

Bhubaneswar: Muhammad Yunus, the interim Prime Minister of Bangladesh has given a very controversial statement in his visit to China about the seven sister states of India. The seven sisters states are known as the seven states in the birth eastern region of India, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh.

These states are known to be landlocked or isolated by not having direct access to the sea. So it does not make them exposed to any other neighbouring country to enter and break it on this factor. It is a foolish reading by Muhammad Yunus. There are many states in India that don’t have access to the sea like Punjab, UP, MP etc.

In this logic China needs a port to utilise for trading it can go to Myanmar instead of coming to Bangladesh as per the map. It is like inviting a guest home just to show we are also capable of proving a platform. Bangladesh is playing this game just to show the US attitude that if you are not giving us find them there are others too.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, is surrounded by India. The thought itself of making any strategic assumption of breaking the seven sister states and including Bangladesh is flawed. The geo political strategy of Muhammad Yunus is very weak in this sense.

The theory of the north east states can be disconnected from the map India as expressed by Muhammad Yunus is very much immature as a political statement. The geopolitical situation is very sensitive. Territorial belongingness and integrity is very important rather than just a few kilometres away from the heartland. The geographical integration is not necessarily monotonous physically. This cannot be a valid ground to verify any objective.
