Jindal Foundation Signs MoU with BCKIC to Provide Livelihoods to Women through LED Bulb Production in Barbil

Bhubaneswar: Jindal Foundation, the CSR arm of Jindal Steel and Power has signed an MoU with Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster Foundation (BCKIC) for the sustainable development and women’s empowerment in Odisha. The aim of this partnership is to establish an unit for LED bulb production at Deojhar, Barbil. This is yet another step in the direction of providing the women of the region a full fledged employment opportunity along with promotion of eco-friendly, energy efficient products.

This initiative is going to give trainings to the local women on LED bulb making and production, equip them with a skills for manufacturing the bulbs. This project will be growing on a gradual manner to provide the women of the locality economic stability.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar, Chairman of BCKIC, and Shri Vargil Lakra, GM-CSR of Jindal Foundation at the Barbil Pellet Plant of JSP. The other important persons present there were Shri Purushotham M D, Unit Head, Shri Ashish Ranjan Mohanty, Head HR & ES and other senior officials and the participating women from the close by villages.

This program will particularly create facilities, capacity building, tie ups and forward linkages and marketing for the women participants. There will be a regular income source, make then skillful in negotiations, decision making that would be helpful to their long-run growth in an equitable manner. As the region, Joda, Barbil and Deojhar is dominated with tribal population, the women will get a chance to avail an sustainable social business model to empower themselves. Which is why this initiative will put a lasting community impact.
